Saint John's freshman Quinn Anderson (Sartell, Minn./Sartell-St. Stephen) won the MIAC title in the discus with a distance of 47.18 meters, the conference's best mark in the event this season, as SJU finished fourth out of 11 teams at the 2014 MIAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships May 9-10.
Anderson entered the meet with a season-best of 43.19 meters, set May 3 at the Meet of Saints, and eclipsed it by four meters. He currently has the 35th-best mark in NCAA Division III and has an opportunity to improve it as the Johnnies travel south to compete at the Wisconsin-La Crosse "Last-Chance" Qualifier at 3 p.m. this Thursday, May 15, in La Crosse, Wis.
A Johnnie has now won the discus at the MIAC Outdoor Championships five of the last six years: Griffin Hayes (2009 and 2011), Wade Powers (2010 and 2012).
