Saint John's senior golfer Casey Vangsness (Alexandria, Minn.) led SJU with a with a three-day total of 223 (+9), which tied him for fifth out of 100 golfers, as the Johnnies finished second out of 19 teams at the annual Twin Cities Classic, hosted by Gustavus Adolphus, Sept. 28-30.

Manitoba won the tournament with a three-round total of 903 (+47), followed by No. 10 SJU (+54, 910), Wisconsin-Eau Claire (+56, 912), No. 12 Gustavus (+57, 913) and No. 22 St. Thomas (+59, 915). SJU Blue finished three shots back of the Tommies in sixth (+62, 918).

Since Manitoba is not a member of the NCAA, Monday's result counts as a win for SJU in the eyes of Golfstat and NCAA Division III.

Vangsness currently leads SJU with a 75.2 stroke average in 10 rounds this fall (74.7 stroke average in 80 career rounds).

The Johnnies wrap up their fall schedule with the three-day MIAC Championship Saturday-Monday, Oct. 5-7, at Bunker Hills G.C. (par 72) in Coon Rapids. Saturday's opening round is scheduled for 11 a.m. The tournament's winner earns the conference's automatic bid to the 2014 NCAA Division III Championship May 13-16 at Grandover Resort in Greensboro, N.C.
