Sophomore linebacker Maze Thompson (Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View) led SJU with 12 tackles (nine solo), including three tackles for a loss, a sack, a forced fumble and a blocked field goal as the Johnnies erased a 14-10 halftime deficit by outscoring Gustavus 21-3 in a 31-17 win Oct. 27. He was named the MIAC Defensive Player of the Week for his performance.

His block of a 30-yard field-goal attempt came in the fourth quarter, which would have cut SJU's lead to 24-20. The average GAC gain on his 12 tackles was 2.6 yards.

He is currently second on the team in total tackles (51), tackles for loss (6.5) and sacks (2.0).

The Johnnies (4-4, 2-4 MIAC) travel to take on Hamline (1-7, 0-7 MIAC) for a 1 p.m. kickoff this Saturday, Nov. 3, at Klas Field in St. Paul.
