MIAC Release
COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Saint John's freshman forward
Axel Martin (Lakeville, Minn./Rosemount) was named the MIAC Men's Soccer Offensive Athlete of the Week on Monday, Sept. 29.
Martin led SJU (5-2-2, 1-2-0 MIAC) to its first MIAC win of the season, 4-1 over St. Scholastica last Monday (Sept. 22), with a trio of goals. Martin scored twice in the first half and capped the game off with the Johnnies' fourth goal for his first collegiate hat trick – and his first conference points. The hat trick was the second for the Johnnies this season, after sophomore forward
Ronan O'Connor (Woodbury, Minn./Hill-Murray) scored three Sept. 11 at North Central. The last time SJU had two players net a hat trick in the same season was 2004, when now-head coach
Tudor Flintham '06 and Tyler Bosch '05 completed the trifecta.
Martin has played all nine games this fall (eight starts) and is second on the team with 12 points (4g/4a).
The Johnnies play host to No. 3 Augsburg (10-0, 2-0 MIAC) at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30, at Haws Field.
