D3football.com Poll - Week 8
COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Saint John's University stayed at No. 3 in the latest D3football.com Top 25 poll released on Sunday, Oct. 27.
Seven teams in NCAA Region 6 were ranked in the top 25, including six in the top 20: SJU (No. 3), Wisconsin-Platteville (No. 8), Wisconsin-Oshkosh (No. 9), Whitworth (No. 14), Linfield (No. 18), Wisconsin-La Crosse (No. 20) and Wisconsin-River Falls (No. 21). Wisconsin-Whitewater, Bethel and Wisconsin-Stout received votes.
SJU broke open a 7-0 halftime lead with 27 points in the second half for a 34-0 shutout of Gustavus Adolphus on Saturday (Oct. 26) in Collegeville. The Johnnies out-gained the Gusties 458-126, including a 338-65 margin through the air. GAC ended the day 8 of 20 passing with an interception and was sacked six times.
Senior quarterback
Aaron Syverson (Minnetonka, Minn.) finished 24 of 35 passing for 338 yards and three touchdowns. Junior tight end
Joey Gendreau (Shorewood, Minn./Minnetonka) caught a 76-yard touchdown from Syverson on the second offensive play of the second half, while junior wide receiver
Dylan Wheeler (St. Paul, Minn./Mounds View) led the way with six receptions for 101 yards and a touchdown.
Senior linebacker
Hayden Sanders (Brooklyn Park, Minn./Champlin Park) totaled seven tackles, including 3.5 for a loss, 1.0 sack and a forced fumble.
The Johnnies (7-0, 5-0 MIAC, 2-0 Northwoods) travel to face St. Scholastica (2-5, 1-4 MIAC, 0-3 Northwoods) for a 1 p.m. kickoff this Saturday, Nov. 2, at Walt Hunting Stadium (formerly Public Schools Stadium) in Duluth.
