GCAA Release

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – The 2009-10 Saint John's University golf team earned Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) All-Academic team recognition for the second consecutive season Tuesday, Aug. 17.

To be eligible for GCAA All-Academic Team honors a college of university must submit the grade points earned and hours attempted for each player on its official squad list for the academic year.

For the second straight season, the Johnnies were the only Division III team to earn All-Academic team honors and finish in the Top 10 at the 2010 NCAA Division III Championship last May.

Current senior Ben Cahill (Grand Rapids, Minn.) earned Division III Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar honors last spring. An accounting major with a 3.41 GPA, Cahill was named to the All-MIAC Sportsmanship team for the second straight year and boasted a 76.0 stroke average with two top-five finishes last season. The Johnnies have now had at least one All-America Scholar in each of the past 11 seasons (22 overall).

SJU opens its 2010-11 schedule at the Bemidji State Invitational Sunday and Monday, Sept. 12-13, in Bemidji, Minn. The Johnnies defend their 2009 conference title, which was their sixth in the past seven seasons, at the 2010 MIAC Championship Oct. 2-4 at Bunker Hills G.C. in Coon Rapids, Minn.
