COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. - The Saint John's University golf team moved up one spot to No. 6 in the latest Golf World Division III poll released April 28.

Saint John's won its spring invitational with a three-day total of 854 (-2) on April 25 at the Monticello C.C. Concordia-Moorhead finished second with an 882 (+26), 28 strokes behind SJU. Sophomore Tony Krogen (Marshall, Minn.) earned medalist honors for the second time this season with a 211 (-3), followed by freshman Mark Giorgi (Red Wing, Minn.) and senior Ben Vangsness (Alexandria, Minn.) in second (212, -2) and third (216, +2) overall, respectively. Junior Ben Cahill (Grand Rapids, Minn.) tied for seventh with a 219 (+5) and sophomore Alex Klehr (Mankato, Minn./West) tied for 11th with a 221 (+7). Freshman Dennis Granath (Bandhagen, Sweden/Farsta Gymnasium) competed as an individual and tied for ninth (220, +6) in his first spring competition. Freshman Andy Stahlman (Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata) led SJU Blue, which finished ninth as a team (915, +59), with a 225 (+11).

The Johnnies shattered its week-old scoring record for a three-round (or larger) tournament last weekend at their own spring invite. SJU fired an eye-opening two-under par 854 on April 25, which bested the seven-over 871 recorded at the Gusties' meet the week before. The previous school record, set before the 2010 spring season began, was a 10-over par 874 recorded at the 2008 Twin Cities Classic.

SJU hosts St. Thomas for the annual Johnnie-Tommie Cup this Wednesday, April 28, at the Pebble Creek G.C. in Becker. The Johnnies will then make their 11th consecutive trip to the NCAA Division III Championship May 11-14 in Hershey, Pa.
