COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. - Former Saint John's University wide receiver Evan Clark '17 is scheduled to participate at the University of Minnesota Pro Day Wednesday, March 28, in Minneapolis. The event is scheduled for 9 a.m. at the Gophers' new indoor practice facility at Athletes Village.

Clark, along with several other aspiring professional football players, from the Gophers and other invited Division II and Division III players, will work out in front of NFL scouts with the hopes of landing a spot on an NFL roster. The workouts are not open to the public.

A native of Phoenix, Clark participated in a local tryout March 23 with the Arizona Cardinals. He graduated in December with a communication degree.

A two-time All-MIAC first-team and three-time D3football.com All-West Region honoree, Clark led SJU in all three receiving categories last fall for the second straight year. He appeared in 10 of the Johnnies' 11 games and caught 29 passes for 496 yards (17.1 avg.) and six touchdowns, and finished third on the team with 202 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 13 carries.

His 86-yard touchdown reception Sept. 30 against Bethel was the fifth-longest pass play in program history. Clark played some defensive back Oct. 7 against Augsburg, for the second consecutive game, and recorded his first interception. He also broke up another pass later in the game that was snagged by junior safety Max Jackson (St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall) and returned 44 yards for a touchdown.

Clark ended his career with 29 total touchdowns (23 receiving, four rushing, two kick returns), the 15th-most in school history, and tied for ninth in receiving touchdowns and 14th in receiving yards (1,701). Eighteen of Clark's 29 career touchdowns covered 25 yards or more, including 14 over 40 yards. His 1,185 career kick-return yards are good for second in school history.

The last Johnnie to reach the NFL was wide receiver Blake Elliott '03, who signed as an undrafted free agent with the Minnesota Vikings in 2004.

Three current, SJU assistant coaches also reached the professional ranks. Defensive line coach Damien Dumonceaux '05 played for the Sioux Falls Storm of the Indoor Football League in 2006, and running backs coach Josh Bungum '16 played for the Cineplexx Blue Devils of the Austrian Football League (AFL) and the Central European Football League (CEFL) in 2016. Receivers coach Kole Heckendorf followed up a record-setting career at Division I North Dakota State by signing with the Green Bay Packers as an undrafted free agent in 2009. He later joined four other NFL organizations: the Detroit Lions, Seattle Seahawks, San Diego Chargers and Indianapolis Colts.
