Six Out-State All-Stars Bring 2013 SJU Football Class' Total to 16

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Saint John's University head football coach Gary Fasching announced that six additional 2013 recruits from outside of Minnesota were named to their respective state all-star games: defensive back/punter Garrett Ackerman (Great Oak High School, Calif.); linebacker Bryce Byl (Osceola High School, Wis.); running back Jakob Certeza (Great Oak High School, Calif.); linebacker Nate Hass (Guardian Angels Central Catholic High School, Neb.); linebacker Alex Lowe (Kearney Catholic High School, Neb.); and running back Tyler Shalla (Southern High School, Neb.).

The six outstate All-Stars, combined with the 10 that competed in the Minnesota High School All-Star game, brings the incoming class' total to 17.

Ackerman tallied 94 tackles for Great Oak High School (Calif.) at safety last fall and averaged 43.7 yards on 39 punts, good for fifth in the state of California according to MaxPreps.com (minimum 30 punts).

A California state all-star at linebacker and a teammate of Ackerman, Certeza ran for 1,346 yards and 16 touchdowns on 188 carries (7.2 avg.) in 11 games (122.4 avg.) for the Wolfpack this fall and combined for 2,619 rushing yards on 420 attempts (6.2 avg.) and 26 touchdowns over the past two seasons.

Shalla rushed for 789 yards and six touchdowns on 121 carries (6.5 avg.), caught five passes for 99 yards and a touchdown, made 74 tackles at linebacker and averaged 30.4 yards on nine kick returns in nine games for the Raiders in 2012.

Lowe filled the stat sheet with 171 tackles, 110 solo, in 11 games for the Stars last fall and tallied 361 tackles (127 solo) as a junior and senior combined (24 games). He was named to the Nebraska Class C-1 All-State team and participated at the invite-only Under Armour All-Nebraska Combine.

Byl led the Chieftains with 73 tackles and rushed for 416 yards on 87 carries (4.8 avg.) in eight regular-season games.

Hass was a two-time All-State selection as a running back and linebacker for the Bluejays, who compete in eight-man football. He rushed for over a combined 3,200 yards and posted over 200 tackles the past two seasons.
