Ten Johnnies Named to NFF Hampshire Honor Society

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. –  Ten Saint John's University football student-athletes were named to the 2010 National Football Foundation & College Football Hall of Fame Hampshire Honor Society on Tuesday, May 4.

The student-athletes must be either a starter or a significant substitute in one's last year of eligibility, achieve a 3.2 cumulative grade point average throughout the entire course of undergraduate study, and meet all NCAA-mandated progress towards degree requirements.

- Senior offensive lineman Blaine Anderson (Hewitt, Minn./Bertha-Hewitt): Management
- Senior offensive lineman Ben Dimond (Excelsior, Minn./Minnetonka): Psychology
- Senior linebacker Ethan Eid (Arden Hills, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall): Economics
- Senior linebacker Dan Franta (Winnebago, Minn./Blue Earth Area): Physics (Pre-Engineering emphasis)
- Senior kicker/punter Russell Gliadon (Fridley, Minn.): Communication
- Senior defensive lineman Nick Gunderson (Woodbury, Minn.): Accounting
- Senior defensive back Dominic Haik (Minneapolis, Minn./Totino-Grace): Political Science (Pre-Law emphasis)
- Senior offensive lineman Drew Percival (Wayzata, Minn./Blake): Accounting
- Senior offensive lineman/tight end Greg Sowden (Brooklyn Park, Minn./Park Center): English
- Senior linebacker Ryan Wimmer (St. Cloud, Minn./Cathedral): Environmental Studies

A total of 620 players from 246 schools qualified for membership. Saint John's led both the MIAC and the state with 10 inductees. Only three of the 246 institutions had more members than Saint John's. Brown, Nebraska Wesleyan and Washington (Mo.) had 12 inductees each. 

SJU ended the 2009 season with a 10-1 overall record and a 10-0 record in the MIAC. The Johnnies earned their MIAC-record 31st conference championship, the 27th title under the direction head coach John Gagliardi, and made their 24th postseason appearance (20th appearance in the NCAA Division III playoffs). Gagliardi ended his record 61st season with a 471-126-11 (.784) career record and a 447-120-10 (.783) record in 57 seasons at SJU.
