2008 Fall Academic All-MIAC (Pdf)
COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Five Saint John's University soccer student-athletes received Academic All-MIAC honors Thursday, Jan. 29: senior Cameron Christensen (Bismarck, N.D./St. Mary's), senior Jason Daly (Eden Prairie, Minn.), junior Luke Nelson (Caledonia, Minn.), sophomore Tom Hoffman (Mahtomedi, Minn.) and sophomore A.J. Sollom (Roberts, Wis./River Falls).
In order to qualify for MIAC Academic All-Conference recognition student-athletes must be a sophomore, junior, or senior with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale. Athletically, student-athletes in soccer must compete in 50% of their team's varsity regular season contests.
A two-time Academic All-District selection and a three-time Academic All-MIAC selection, Christensen is a computer science major with a 3.94 GPA. Christensen played in 14 games with an injured left knee last fall and tallied three assists for the Johnnies. Christensen was also named to the 2008 MIAC All-Sportsmanship team.
A two-time team captain and two-time All-MIAC first-team selection, Daly tallied four assists in four years as a Johnnie defender. Daly was also a three-time Academic All-District selection and now a three-time Academic All-MIAC selection. Daly is a mathematics major with a 3.88 GPA.
A biology major with a 3.53 GPA, Nelson played 17 games in net for the Johnnies and posted a 10-4-1 record. Nelson is a biology major with a 3.53 GPA.
Hoffman, a midfielder, tallied one goal and five assists this season for the Johnnies. Hoffman is a management and economics double-major with a 3.62 GPA.
Sollom recorded seven points (2g/3a) this past fall and is a biology major (pre-engineering emphasis) with a 3.54 GPA.
SJU ended the 2008 season with an 11-6-1 overall record and a 6-3-1 record in the MIAC, good for fourth place. SJU head coach Pat Haws ended his 31st season in Collegeville with a 336-129-48 (.702) career record and a 217-69-30 (.734) MIAC record.
