Five Johnnie Wrestlers Place at St. Cloud State Husky Open

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – Five Saint John's University wrestlers finished in the top six of their respective weight classes at the 2008 St. Cloud State Husky Open Saturday, Dec. 13.

Sophomore Matt Baarson (Brooklyn Park, Minn./Champlin Park) finished second at 157 pounds. Baarson went 4-1 on the day, including a pin and technical fall, before falling to Augsburg's Jason Adams 9-7 in the championship match.

Sophomore Dustin Baxter (Fairbanks, Alaska/West Valley), who also posted a 4-1 record, finished third at 184. Baxter fell to St. Cloud State's Luke Munkelwitz, the eventual champion, 3-2 in the semifinal round. Baxter defeated Curtis Hines of Wisconsin-Parkside with a major decision (12-3) in wrestlebacks before topping MSU-Mankato's Aaron Norgren 14-7 in the third-place match.

Sophomore Tony Willaert (3-2 record; North Mankato, Minn./Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial) finished fourth at 197, while senior Grant Eustice (2-2 record; Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View) and junior Jake Evenson (2-2 record; Burnsville, Minn./Apple Valley) claimed sixth place at 174 and heavyweight, respectively.

The Johnnies return to action at the Sunshine Open Dec. 28-29 in Oviedo, Fla.
