SJU Golf Wins Second Consecutive National Championship
BRASELTON, Ga. - Down by eight strokes entering the final round, Saint John’s University shot a 291 (+7) to win its second consecutive NCAA Division III Men’s Golf National Championship at Chateau Elan Resort in Braselton, Ga. - Release
Doug Schueller Named Head Hockey Coach
COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. - Saint John’s University named Doug Schueller its head hockey coach May 16. Schueller (SHU-ler) becomes the 22nd head coach in the 76-year history of Johnnie hockey and replaces John Harrington, who resigned in March following 15 seasons at SJU. Schueller recently served as an assistant coach at NCAA Division I Bowling Green State University the past two seasons and was responsible for the Falcons’ defense and recruiting efforts. - Release
Schoolmeesters Named MIAC Player of the Year for Second Consecutive Year
COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. - Junior Joe Schoolmeesters (Litchfield, Minn.) was named the MIAC Men's Golf Player of the Year for the second consecutive seasonm May 12. Schoolmeesters joins Sammy Schmitz (2002 and 2003) and Josh Sherlin (2004 and 2005) as the third Johnnie to earn the honor two consecutive years. Erichsen Named a Finalist for Student-Athlete Award
COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. - Senior Saint John's cross country and track student-athlete Chris Erichsen (Spring Valley, Minn./Kingsland) was named a finalist for the College Sporting News Senior Student-Athlete of the Year Award for the MIAC April 23. - Release
Three SJU Skiers Named to NCAA All-Academic Ski Team
COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. - Three members of the 2007-08 Saint John's University Nordic Ski team were named to the 2008 NCAA All-Academic Ski Team. In order to achieve such an accomplishment, student-athletes need to obtain a minimum GPA of 3.5 during the Fall 2007 semester. In addition, skiers must have participated at the 2008 NCAA Regional held in Biwabik on Feb. 16-17. - Release

SJU Head Hockey Coach John Harrington Resigns
COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. - Saint John’s University hockey coach John Harrington resigned Monday, March 31 following 15 seasons with the Johnnies. Harrington has accepted a head coaching position with Hockey Club Ambri-Piotta, a professional team in the National “A” League of Switzerland. Harrington will continue serving as head coach at SJU until his contract expires June 30, and the search process for his replacement will begin immediately. - Release
SJU Senior Named Cross Country All-Academic Athlete of the Year
Senior Chris Erichsen (Spring Valley, Minn./Kingsland) was named the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association (USTFCCCA) NCAA Division III Men's Cross Country All-Academic Athlete of the Year Feb. 26. In addition to Erichsen, senior Kelly Fermoyle (Mendota Heights, Minn./Henry Sibley) and junior Zach Hunter (Billings, Mont.) were named to the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team - Release | MIAC Release
SJU Leads Nation in NCAA Division III Football Attendance for Seventh Consecutive Season
For the 11th time in 15 years, the Saint John's University football team was the top ranked institution among NCAA Division III attendance leaders. SJU averaged a school-record 8,769 fans per game and attracted 52,614 spectators during six home games in 2007, an increase of 222 spectators per game from last year's figures. - Release | MIAC Release | NCAA Attendance Figures
Alumni Portion of the 2007 Liberty Mutual Coach of the Year Award to Create Scholarship
COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. - The $20,000 grant for the SJU Alumni Association that comes with John Gagliardi’s Liberty Mutual Coach of the Year award will help form the new Saint John’s University Alumni Association Endowed Scholarship, according to Troy Fritz, SJU executive director of university relations. Gagliardi and Liberty Mutual Sales Representative Jim Emil will present the $20,000 check to the SJU Alumni Association at the J-Club Red Tie Gala celebrating Johnnies Athletics Feb. 1 at the Northland Inn in Brooklyn Park. - Release
Twenty SJU Student-Athletes Named Academic All-Conference
Twenty Saint John's University student-athletes were named 2007 Fall Academic All-MIAC on Thursday, Jan. 24. Student-athletes must be a sophomore, junior, or senior with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale to qualify for MIAC Academic All-Conference recognition. Athletically, student-athletes in football, soccer, and volleyball must compete in 50% of their team’s varsity regular season contests. Golfers must be a member of their competing team at the conference championship and cross country runners must finish in the top 50 at the conference championship or be in the top seven of their team at the MIAC Championships. - Release
